Horse

I don't think I've posted pictures of one of my other artistic endeavors here before, but I make cowboy and shamans from old wood that I recycle, and this is the first horse I made. I've been wanting to make one for awhile, but the jewelry keeps my pretty busy. Then I got an order for a horse to go with a cowboy someone had ordered early in the summer, so I finally had an excuse to take the time to make a horse. I really like the way her turned out, and am looking forward to working on another next spring when it warms up again!

Huge Sonoran Sunset Cuff Bracelet

A large--ok, really large!--Sonoran Sunset cuff bracelet that I recently made. This stone was found a few years ago in northern Sonora, Mexico, and is sometimes called Sonora Sunrise. The bright reds, oranges, blacks and turquoise colors are simply stunning together! This stone is mostly the red tones, and I created this cuff in my 'funky' style. Definitely an attention-getter!

Large Chrysocolla Pendant

I wanted to make a pendant with this gorgeous Chrysocolla in Matrix stone all winter. The stars finally aligned, and I am super happy with the way it turned out!

Natural Chunk of Raw Amethyst Ring

I love this chunk of Amethyst! This large stone has a darker streak of vivid purple running thru it, a rich, wet look and a high profile. This ring is not for the faint of heart! I soldered on some sterling accents and oxidzed between them so that the black would show off the purple-yummy!

Tucson Gem Show Trip 2013

When going to Tucson, I like to stop overnight in Globe, Arizona, so that I have an early morning drive through Saguaro cactus country on my way to the first show. It's so peaceful and beautiful. And when I stopped to take these pictures, I found several great 'treasures' for my art projects that people had thrown out. One man's junk....

Tucson Gem Show

I had a very satisfying trip to Tucson, and really liked those 75 degree temps!!! I got lots of great treasures--I was especially happy to get some opal and boulder opal cabs. I also found some nice, freeform labradorite cabs, in addition to some larimar, charoite, seraphinite, and pietersite cabs. I also got some great raw aquamarines, citrines, and turquoise nuggets, and some nice mini slabs of azurite, sonoran sunset, rhodochrosite and larimar. Also, a bunch of cool beads, including amethyst, keshi pearls, spiny oyster and copal. I enjoyed seeing some of my dealer buddies--good luck with the wedding, Deb! And it's always nice to find some new dealers that I will look for next time I go. Tucson is the place to see the biggest and best amethyst cathedrals, and I rather liked these petrified wood benches...

Belt Buckle

Another custom order. I was asked to make a men's belt buckle, which I had not done before. It was a bit tricky for me to heat so much silver, but I finally got the torch setting figured out. I love the stone, which is black, gold and white turquoise, or basically turquoise matrix. I am happy with the buckle, and hope that my customer will be, too!

Boulder Opal Bolo Tie

This is a custom order that I did, using his gorgeous Boulder Opal stone. I was really pleased with the way it turned out, and so, thankfully, was he!

Fabulous Crazy Lace Agate Pendant

Large Turquoise Cuff Bracelet

This is an incredible turquoise cabochon! To me, it looks like ridges of mountains in twilight. I surrounded the stone with sterling granulation, and soldered lots of sterling accents on the three quarter inch wide band. Roadside Sculptures

On my drive back from Ohio the end of October, I passed a group of folk arty metal sculptures along a fence in Mullinville, Kansas. They were funky and fun and political and wonderful. I googled them upon my return, and apparently a Mr. M. T. Liggett is the creator of these whirlygigs, windmills and sculptures. Thank you Mr. Liggett, I loved them, and I hope to go back someday and meet you!

Luna Parc

I heard about Luna Parc a couple years ago, and was thrilled to visit during it's semi-annual open house while I was back in New Jersey. Luna Parc is an incredible, colorful, fantabulous wonderland of creative genius! Thank you, Ricky, I absolutely LOVED it, and look forward to returning soon! New York City, October 2012

My mother and I went to New Jersey for my aunt's 90th birthday celebration, and we spent a day in New York City. So cool!!! I'd thought, country bumpkin that I am, that I'd be freaked out, but I surprised myself by loving it! My cousin Deb was a great guide, and we saw Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Trump Tower, and even the Broadway play "Warhorse", which was fabulous. It's hard to believe the devastation that Hurricane Sandy has wreaked upon New Jersey and NYC since we were there just 2 weeks ago. Best wishes to everyone back there, my mom and I will back as soon as we can!
